It is easy to get to and in driving distance to some of the most thriving areas in Florida. It has interstate access, railroad connections, marina, and ports in the area. The City of Palmetto dates to the arrival of Samuel Sparks Lamb in 1868. He is called the “Father of Palmetto” and gave the town its name after his home state, South Carolina, the “Palmetto State”. In 1897, Florida’s governor later signed a charter declaring Palmetto a City in the Sunshine State.
The railroad came to Palmetto in 1902, which allowed the activity of the area to switch to more commerce allowing for a steady stream of supplies such as bricks in the area. New access to construction supplies provided for more stable and less fire prone building development.
Numerous events are held in the City of Palmetto throughout the year including the Kid's Fishing Tournament, the Desoto Children's Parade, Heritage, Farm City Week, a Vintage Wheels Car Show, a Multi-Cultural Festival…just to name a few. You can also catch the nearby Taste of Manatee, the De Soto Seafood Festival and don’t miss the fireworks on the 4th of July over the Manatee River.
